Folle éruption au Festival Volcadiva 2024
Tous les étés, dans le cadre du Théâtre des thermes de Royat-Chamalières, à quelques kilomètres de Clermont-Ferrand, le Festival Volcadiva mise toujours sur la même recette : une semaine de concerts quotidiens, la mise en lumière de jeunes talents aux carrières prometteuses, et le choix de programmes courts (une heure) mettant en avant un répertoire varié et toujours riche de savoureuses surprises. Une formule gagnante depuis plus de 25 ans pour un festival ayant notamment accueilli Jennifer Michel, Victor Sicard, Charlotte Bonnet, ou encore Marlène Assayag, et qui programme cette année le ténor Kim Hun, les sopranos Aliénor Feix et Cécile Perrin, ainsi que la mezzo Éléonore Gagey.
Le contre-ténor belge Logan Lopez Gonzalez est également au rendez-vous, venu proposer un récital sur le thème de la folie, rien de moins. La folie par le rêve, la névrose et l’amour bien sûr, autant de notions qui toutes trouvent pour appui des œuvres d’époque et de genre bien différents. Tout commence par du Haendel, avec des airs de son Orlando (personnage dont la jalousie vire à la folie) pour se finir par du Freddie Mercury (avec le très éthéré You take my breath away de Queen), en passant par le moderne et dissonant air The Sleeper de George Crumb, qui pourrait installer l'ambiance dans un château hanté, ainsi également que la chanson La Vague et la cloche d’Henri Duparc, songe troublant et troublé, ou encore Un Grand sommeil noir d’Edgard Varèse, composé sur un poème de Verlaine.
S’y ajoutent en outre des mélodies du plus connu Schumann, dont la fin de vie avait été émaillée de crises nerveuses (la folie, encore et toujours), mais d’autres airs méconnus complètent le programme du soir, tel Sleep du britannique Ivor Gurney, l’une des Chansons de Bilitis de Debussy (« La Chevelure »), ou encore un extrait du très moderne opéra de Jonathan Dove, Flight (1998), inspiré de l’histoire de Mehran Karimi Nasseri, réfugié iranien qui avait élu domicile à Roissy.
Des plaisirs divers en somme qui, outre ce fil rouge du délire et de l’égarement, ont aussi pour point commun d’être servis par une voix qui reste tout en contrôle, celle de Logan Lopez Gonzalez. Passant avec aisance d’un répertoire et d’une époque à une autre, le contre-ténor fait valoir une heure durant toute la vaillance et la brillance de son atypique instrument, particulièrement sonore et dont la ligne s’étire sur le fil d’un souffle de belle longueur. Une voix qui, si elle s’épanouit sur le terrain plutôt virtuose des Haendel et Schumann, sait aussi naviguer en des eaux bien plus obscures et évanescentes en abordant le répertoire plus récent. C’est le cas dans ce monastique Psaume de Maurice Schoemaker, l’une des pièces fétiches du contre-ténor qui complète le menu du soir, où le jeune artiste trouve l’occasion de passer du grave à l’aigu de tête avec des façons de leste acrobate sûr de son fait, alternant nuances mezza voce et suraigus d’une sonorité pleine de relief.
Mais s’il y a du son, il y a aussi des mots et, hors de rares moments où l’imposante patine sonore efface quelque peu la lettre (tout en saisissant l’auditoire), tout est ici mis en œuvre pour donner leur juste poids aux textes et aux émotions qu’ils portent, la colère, la nostalgie, la douleur, ou encore une folie qui sait se faire un peu plus joyeuse et taquine. Le tout dans des emplois d’allemand, anglais, italien et français, d’égale et remarquable facture.
Le chanteur à la personnalité vocale indéniable, donc, et à l’entrain communicatif (chaque morceau est précédé d’une petite prise de parole introductive) trouve en la pianiste allemande Stella Marie Lorenz une parfaite complice. Virtuose (comme dans cette pièce pour piano seul de Pancrace Royer), toujours à l’écoute de son partenaire avec qui elle échange de nombreux regards, l’instrumentiste fait aussi montre d’une technique hors pair, comme quand il s’agit, à l’occasion, d’avoir une main sur le clavier et une autre sur les cordes, pour mieux étouffer le son de ces dernières et en tirer des sonorités austères et glaçantes.
Des manières d’acrobate, là aussi, que le public ne peut qu’applaudir, après avoir pu savourer, en bis, une ultime mélodie de Debussy inspirée par Verlaine (« La mer est plus belle que les cathédrales »), ou encore L’Heure Exquise de Reynaldo Hahn. Une habile manière de conclure un concert "exquis", en effet.
